New camera modules with CSI-2 MIPI interface

We are working non-stop to offer the best cameras for your next projects! Today we’re unveiling three new board level cameras powered by image sensors: Onsemi AR0822, Onsemi AR0234, and Sony IMX477. And that’s not all – here’s a first teaser of our upcoming 1″ 20 MP module.

All three newcomers share the same dimensions, wiring, and lens mount as the 462x-CSI we launched just six weeks ago, so you can drop them in without missing a beat. And, with our own Raspberry Pi driver and factory calibration data, you’ll capture perfect images right away.

Footprint

All cameras share a compact 26 x 26mm board size with an M12 lens mount. Lens mounting holes are spaced 20mm apart, and four M2 mounting holes are positioned on a 22mm square. Cameras have 4-lane CSI2 MIPI interface via a standard 22-pin, 0.5 mm pitch connector.

822x-CSI

The AR0822 is an 8-megapixel stacked back-side-illuminated CMOS image sensor that uses a 2.0µm pixel pitched array of 3840 x 2160 pixels, corresponding to a 1/1.8″ (8.81 mm diagonal) optical format. It offers electronic rolling-shutter and global-reset-release readout, feeding up to 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface at 350 Mb/s to 2 Gb/s per lane via an 12-bit ADC. In linear mode the device streams native 4 K video at 60 frames per second; high-dynamic-range operation includes two-exposure line-interleaved HDR and three-exposure embedded HDR at up to 30 fps, producing a composite dynamic range of 120 dB, while a single-exposure extended-dynamic-range mode reaches 45 fps. In FullHD mode sensor can stream up to 120fps. Best suitable for: security camera systems, IoT imaging nodes and connected device cameras, vehicle car DVR (dash cam) recorders.

234x-CSI

The AR0234CS is a 2.3-megapixel global shutter CMOS sensor that uses a 3.0µm pixel array of 1920 x 1200, giving a 1/2.6″ (6.8mm diagonal) optical format. It outputs 8 or 10 bit RAW through up to four MIPI CSI-2 lanes at 900 Mb/s per lane. Default streaming reaches 120 fps at full resolution, while a 2×2 binned 960 x 600 window delivers 237fps. Best suitable for: bar-code scanners, gesture-recognition devices, 3D scanners, positional tracking systems, iris scanning terminals, augmented reality headsets, virtual reality headsets, biometric sensors, machine-vision cameras, and industrial-inspection equipment.

477x-CSI

The IMX477 is a stacked back side illuminated Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with a 7.857 mm (type 1/2.3″) optical format and 4056 × 3040 active square pixels at a 1.55µm pitch, giving 12.3-megapixel resolution. It uses an electronic rolling shutter with variable integration time, 10/12-bit ADCs that stream RAW12/10/8 over a 2 or 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface running up to 2.1Gb/s per lane. Normal mode delivers the full 4056 x 3040 picture at 60fps in 10-bit format and can stream up to 240fps in 1080 resolution. Auxiliary functions include pixel-binning and V-sub-sampling engines, ambient light and temperature sensors, flash strobe drive, HDR mode, independent image flip/mirror, power save mode and multi camera synchronization. Best suitable for: consumer 4K camcorders and other high speed, multi camera video systems.

Application Examples

High resolution smart surveillance
822C-CSI delivers native 4K@60fps video with three exposure eHDR reaching 120dB mode, making it ideal for smart city cameras and analytics gateways that need UHD streams over a single four-lane MIPI-CSI-2 connection.

Low light / NIR perimeter monitoring
The monochrome 822M-CSI variant omits the CFA, boosting near-IR responsivity and keeping 1080@120fps global reset read out.

Traffic DVR and dash cam recorders
With 4K@30 three-exposure eHDR for sun to tunnel transitions plus 120fps FullHD for incident capture, 822C-CSI matches automotive storage bandwidth while the GRR shutter suppresses LED-traffic-light flicker.

Machine-vision barcode and symbol capture
234C-CSI offers a global shutter, 1200@120fps and up to 237 fps in 2 x 2-binned VGA windows, so a single sensor can read fast-moving 1-D/2-D codes on conveyors without motion blur.

Gesture, eye-tracking and AR/VR inputs
Using small sub windows at >200 fps, 234C-CSI feeds low latency hand or gaze tracking pipelines on embedded GPUs through its four lane CSI-2 port while the 3µm pixel maintains 71dB linear DR for reliable operation under office lighting.

Inside out VR/AR multi camera rigs
477C-CSI supplies 12M BSI quality at 4K@60fps and synchronizes across multiple CSI-2 cameras, giving headset makers high resolution world mapping and pass through video without external capture cards.

Slow motion sports analysis
1080@240fps read out lets 477C-CSI freeze club head or ball motion while, delivering high speed clips straight into edge AI boxes over CSI-2.

Cinematic multi camera arrays
The 1.55µm stacked BSI pixel of 477C-CSI, combined with two frame DOL HDR and programmable strobe output, supports synchronized rigs for volumetric capture or light-field video at 4K resolution.
